Ithaa: Underwater Restaurant (aka Human Aquarium)

Yesterday we took the opportunity to visit the only underwater restaurant of its kind, Ithaa, for champagne (and two little bites of appetizers each). The total for two glasses of champagne and four bites of appetizers was $121 (USD). You pay for the experience, not the eats/drinks. :) And yes, it was absolutely worth it!

As you walk down the stairs, to the underwater capsule, you immediately begin to hear the sounds of the ocean. I can't even explain. If you've watched scary sci-fi underwater movies, you know what I'm talking about...and erie almost moaning sound. But soon you realize that there is very popular movie playing, and everything is alright again. Eric describes it as better than being at the aquarium, but I think it is more like the FISH are at the human aquarium. Truly, for once, we were behind the glass for the fish to observe, not the other way around. They were in their natural surroundings, and we were not.

Not much to do down there except stare at fish swimming all around you, and make up stories about them...which you know we did! We looked for Nemo and found a long cousin of his, but no direct sighting of Nemo. Eric and I both got a huge kick out of the cute Japanese lady who saw a parrotfish and squealed with delight. They are the most beautiful fish in the area that we were viewing. Interesting how there are similar expressions and emotional displays across culture. We are all one--humans. :)

It was really bright in the restaurant, and hot! Another cool, fun thing to write in my resume, but we will probably be skipping the $200 (per person lunch, UDS) and $35(per person, USD) dinner.
