Monday on Rangali

Where to start....

We woke up this morning on the island next to Male, where the airport is located. Had a nice breakfast of teriyaki chicken and conversation with the local workers. Foods for breakfast are different in this part of the world--more lunchish items are served. I like it, a lot, actually.

At 7am , the Conrad had a shuttle pick us up at the hotel and take us to the Conrad Lounge, where we waited for the sea plane. As we walked in, the smell was overwhelmingly yummy--eucalyptus and grapefruit. We were greeted with fresh orange juice and a little buffet of treats to snack on. Eric and I strolled to the back, next to the massage chairs. They offer free chair massages...so we both had one. It was a nice way to start the morning.

Once we boarded the sea plane, it occured to me that we were going to be above the ocean in a little flying vessel. It was a little bit scary, but not terrible.  Flying over the different islands was very cool. They are so pretty from the sky.

When we landed, we were greeted by tons of Conrad staff, all in white linen shirts and tan pants, the standard uniform. Our Island Host(s) introduced themselves. (We have a team because the female is training.) The guy's name is Hassan, and he's from the Maldives. Her name is Hakura and she's from Japan. Like I said in my earlier post---Maldivian men...yum. They took us through all the literature on the place and showed us around. Island Hosts are there for all of your needs...reservations, extra hangers, more water, etc. We can call them 24 hours a day. It's insane.

We had a few minutes after the introduction, so we hit up the breakfast buffet. (Because Eric is a Diamond member, we get it for free, thankfully, because it's about $80 for breakfast.)

After breakfast, our Hosts brought us to our villa over the water. Wow!! The pictures will show you how cool this place is (once they are up), as words don't really do it justice. There was champagne and a fresh fruit tray (Diamond member signature) waiting for us.   We hung out and took a video and some photos, then decided it was time to get in the ocean! We have our own stairs, from our deck, directly down into the ocean. Sweet!!The curernts are strong here, and the water is extra choppy. The weather is unusually crappy right now---windy like crazy and rainy. I told Eric it figures--the weather gets out of the ordinary as soon as we arrive. This happened on our Mexico trip, too. After the ocean we jumped in the hottub and had some champagne. It was pretty good.

In the afternoon we spent a lot of time walking around, exploring the grounds. There is a 500 foot bridge between our island and the main island, so we get to do a lot of walking. On the other island, we discovered there is a relaxation area, fit with big outside beds and chairs, in an open but covered area.  I love it. I can see myelf taking naps there all of the time! We also explored a few stores, the dive center, and the fitness center. The Dive Center was simple, so I think we didn't see all of it. The fitness center is AWESOME!! Cardio machines, free weights, medicine balls, exercise balls, and weight machines.

After our walk, we were hungry, and went to Rangali Bar to share Indian chicken. Yummy!! Shortly after lunch we came home and took a nap. In fact, we missed happy hour and slept until 7:30pm, which is when we were supposed to be at dinner!! oops!! We got up, hussled to make the mile walk to the restaurant on the other island. It wa well worth it! The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Ok, more on today, tomorrow. I have to go to bed. So tired.

Tomorrow:
Today's dinner at Madahoo (and counting calories)
the manta ray

Tomorrow's activities:
90 minutes massages
Underwater restuaurant (Ithaa) for cocktails

Good night. I know you all are just waking up and getting started.
