Yesterday..December 13, 2010
Yesterday was a nice vacation day. We woke up later than normal and went to breakfast, later than normal! We saw our American friends from Chicago. After breakfast we stayed at the villa, most of the morning. Eric ordered lunch through room service, and I read in the sun. Unfortunately, I should have been more responsible because today I'm "stupid-sunburnt red" today. Ouch.
At 2:45pm we had to be at the boat to go diving. This time we were with Daniel. As I have said before, each dive brings something new to the table. The afternoon dive we did on 12.13.2010 was especially memorable because there were bazillions of fish, in schools...and we got to swim with them. Being actually IN a school of fish is amazing. To watch them swim together and turn together is fascinating. Since there so many of them (literally thousands), it was as if we were surrounded by WALLS of fish! I loved it. The coolest thing to happen so far. Of course there were some new fish that I had not noticed on other dives, too, but being in the schools was WAY WAY WAY awesome.
A little after we got back, after 5pm, we went to Vilu for free drinks happy hour, and saw our new Chicago-based friends there. We couldn't drink much because we were about to go to our first ever night dive. At 6:45pm we loaded onto the boat, learned about the flashlights we'd be using (called torches---but no fire--go figure), and headed out.
The dive started out on a choppy boat ride, and a stormy, wave filled jump into the water for our underwater descent. There was still some light out, so it was still fun. But then it got dark....and the rest of the trip was kind of sucky for me. Eric had a better time than I did, luckily. Being in the ocean, with all that room to get lost in, was terrifying. I remember checking my computer 15 minutes in, thinking that 45 minutes couldn't come soon enough. Still, it's diving, and that's fun.
We saw neat things. A big GIGANTIC Napoleon fish. Truly enormous. I saw more eels than I ever needed to. But the most interesting thing--sleeping fish. Ok, I don't know if they were really asleep, because I didn't want to disturb them to ask...but their little fishy tails were sticking out of holes all over the place. So, I assume they were sleeping, or very politely telling us to kiss their ass, which is not very likely.
The current was the strongest we've dove in yet and I didn't much care for that AT ALL. Dark ocean, poisonous creatures, AND strong current. Ugh. I guess it didn't help that the batteries in my torch went out. Seriously...it had to happen to the biggest chicken shit in the group, right? We dove with Julia, and she had an extra one for me. Still.....night dives. No more.
When we got home, we ordered dinner through room service. I had a burger, which was not very tasty. Eric ordered one of my favorite dishes here, but it was not his favorite. Oh well, now we know. :)
I didn't take any photos on the 13th.....lazy girl.
